Nesting

I decided to stock up on some baby essentials this weekend.

Infant Acetaminophen - $2.19 (actually prefer to use ibuprophen, but they don't make the lovely dropper/bottle cap, which I prefer when I'm working on 0.5 hours of sleep)

125 Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags - $23.37

9 BPA-free bottles (now the cheapy Gerber and Evenflo bottles, which fit the Medela pump, are available BPA-free at Target) - $8.97

264 Lansinoh Nursing Pads (so not even enough, sadly) - $24.00

Infant fingernail clippers - $2.49

56 Size 1 Pampers & 210 Pampers Sensitive Wipes - (They PAID me $3.01 after I used a crazy number of coupons.)

Johnson's Baby wash - $1.09 (after $1.00 off coupon)

Total Spent (including tax): $62.65

I don't usually use coupons, but wow.

And that counter thing on the side over there? Kind of stressing me out.

Hello, I haven't started my nesting period yet but I have a lot longer to go than you do. When I hit this time I usually go through a "clean everything out from top to bottom" phase. Then when I get closer I start buying things like mad. I always tend to overbuy and end up with things I needed for an earlier child but don't need for the new one. Do you think it's bad to wait on certain purchases until we need them? Like diapers or medicine? My first daughter used a pacifier. When preparing for a second I bought them to match all her outfits. However she would never use one. None of my kids since would take one. I am trying to convert into only buying what I need from buying everything. However I have this nagging urge to just have everything so I am ready for anything. How do you bypass this? So far the only help with this I have found is telling myself (While at the store) that I will get it next time and then not finding it the next time. This is the only thing that seems to help? I guess what I am getting at is how do you know that you have enough?

Can I make a recommendation? Amazon subscribe & save. I do that for nursing pads, breastmilk bags, and disposable diapers (for daycare). It saves a lot of money and I don't have to remember to go buy them. (but you can't use coupons)

I love seeing people nest. I was so NOT a nester. (My DH would probably disagree, but seriously, I was out buying stuff when I was in labor because I was so unprepared).

Which one? The pregnancy countdown ticker or the cost of a baby? :) I used cloth nursing pads but I was given them free by a friend. I much preferred them to the plastic backed kind. I also just skipped the nail trimmers and used my teeth--more accurate!

Things I did need from the store, but didn't know until after the baby arrived, were those silicone breastfeeding nipples--I had three of my four children end up with nursing difficulties. My fourth ended up being bottlefed after becoming "failure to thrive" at six weeks and many attempts to get him nursing exclusively. For him, I ended up having to buy bottles (I eventually switched to the glass Evenflo bottles, very sturdy, but used the silicone nipples) and formula accessories for travel. But there's no way I would have anticipated or guessed that while pregnant!

If you have diapers, clothes, blankets and the stuff you bought over the weekend, you're probably set, right? Don't worry, you'll get back to saving money soon enough. Besides, this is what you saved the baby money for to begin with, isn't it?

Lindsey - I tried! I tried! As far as I can tell the Lansinoh pads I use and the Luvs we prefer (ahem, can afford) aren't available through Subscribe & Save. But I'll keep my eye on that, because it would be SO NICE.

LeeAnn - it's definitely the pregnancy ticker that is stressing me out - and encouraging me to get all this stuff BOUGHT. ;) Oh how I TRIED cloth nursing pads. And cheaper nursing pads and more expensive nursing pads. And Lansinoh are the only ones that work for me at all.

As for what I have left to buy and your question, Stacey, maybe I'll try to address that in tomorrow's post. :)

My commenters rock.

I never realized that a baby is so expensive! Babies need a ton of stuff, don't they?!

I do want to know what kind of coupons you used and what store you did this at!!!! I sooooo want to learn the tricks of multiple coupon use...

I'm working on a set of my (if I do say so myself) fabulous burpie cloths to send you... :) I'd be more than happy to include some cloth nursing pads as well if you want to give them a go?? Just shoot me an email. Lucky me, you have 3 months to go! I have a tendency to sew slowly. Do you know boy/girl and I have missed? Or is unisex coloring best?

Cheers!
Jamie
