$400

Can $300 cash and $100 in Target gift cards buy fall and winter clothes (including coats, hats, boots, and snow pants) for three children?

What say you?

My lovely wife says SURE! (She ought to know since she's good at thrifty shopping).

Spending the cash at garage sales & consignment shops would definitely stretch your $300. If you could hold off with the gift cards until some monster sale comes along at Target, you could make the most of what you've got. Heck, I bet you could get Indians gear at bargain basement prices right now ;-)

Happy shopping.

I say, "YES!!"... between bargain sales (outlet clearance sales), resale, craigslist, ebay, and garage sales... you can do it.

We are also hitting a lot of local resale ventures at fairgrounds, etc... where big groups of consignors get together, we usually pay a couple bucks to get in and find lots of good deals... they are usually posted on CL. My goal is $100 per child for fall (our main shopping). I've found that younger kids don't need as much so sometimes it works out a little over for bigger kids and less for the younger ones.

Can't wait to see some posts on what you find!

Save the Target card for shoes, undies and coats since they are the hardest thing to find at thrift stores.
Scour the garage sales first- then the thrift stores. Make sure you inventory so you don't overbuy/have holes. Bottom line is that kids can easily get by with 7 outfits if you do laundry often enough.

That's exactly what I was thinking WRT to the Target card! That and the hats, mittens, and, ugh, snowboots. $$$$$$

It comes down to it, and I think I only need three outfits for each of them out of the cash, and I should be able to thrift that!
