Unstuffing

In a pursuit to live more simply, and in a more manageable way, I've been on a mission for the last year or so to pare down our "stuff" to the minimum. This is somewhat difficult, since SuperDad is kindof, maybe, a liiiittle bit of a packrat (but he's so cute!). Plus, you know, I'm feeling all nesty and buying all sorts of unnecessary things for the baby and my big giant belly.

Anyway, as of yesterday, our entire basement was packed full of boxes, which were packed full of stuff. Because I was going to have a rummage sale this weekend.

And then I decided it just wasn't worth the trouble. Not for me, not right now. So almost every one of those boxes went to the church yesterday and will be sold in their rummage sale this weekend. I set aside a few nicer things and have appointments set up to consign those.

It feels really great to have that stuff out of our house (especially since we got water in the basement last night!), but I think we could probably get rid of three times that amount without ever noticing it was gone.

How about you?

After two garage sales, a couple years ago, I've decided that (for me) they are not worth the trouble. I can't tell you how many bags of clothes and "stuff" I have dropped at the Salvation Army in the past month. And it feels so great! My closet, the kids' closet, the garage. Satisfied exhale, baby.

After several attempts at rummage sales over the years and a moving sale last year, I have decided, "It just isn't worth it and my time is worth more!"

We have a number of thrift stores in my city so I continually have a box in the garage where I drop stuff I no longer want. When it is full and/or I have a couple of boxes, off they go! Before I moved, I periodically took things to the local women's shelter, but since moving I haven't taken the time to find out if our local shelter takes donations.

I also go through my closet before the start of fall/winter and spring/summer and pare out what I'm no longer going to wear and make an appt at the local clothing consignment shop. Slowly, but surely, I'm headed toward simplifying my life too!
