Blah Blah Blah

Dinner Update: Pizza. We've been pretty boring at our house food-wise, and the new recipes I've tried haven't really been worth sharing. Though I know we need to start using the oven less. I've been reading (and loving) A Year of Crockpotting lately, and it has me inspired!

Budget Update: We dipped into next week's money to buy a couple of things since we're having company for dinner tonight. Also, I bought a bunch of health(ier) snacks for myself so that this baby won't be composed entirely of cookies.

Garden Update: We had radishes with dinner. Which no one likes but me. Yay, more for me! The only weeds I've had so far in the Square Foot Garden are tree seeds that blew in. I've barely even had to water since we've had rain almost every night. As for bugs, I'm seeing ants and spiders, that's all. I don't know that they are bad for the garden, everything seems to be doing okay so I'm kind of leaving it alone?

Reading Update: Farmer Boy is kind of dragging for me. But I thought this part was interesting:
Almanzo and his brother Royal see their cousin, Frank, at church. Frank has a new hat from New York City (who else heard the old Pace Picante commercial just now? Oh, that would be only me.).
"How much did it cost?" Almanzo asked.
"Fifty cents," Frank said, proudly.
Almanzo knew that he could not have one. The caps that Mother made were snug and warm, and it would be a foolish waste of money to buy a cap. Fifty cents was a lot of money.

When did we lose this sense that what we buy should have more relation to what we need than to what we want? Are you a Frank or an Almanzo? Who do you want to raise your child to be?

"This one's made in New York City!" "New York City?!" "Get a rope..."

Hahaha! I loved that commercial. My Dad and I used to quote it all the time!

I went to look for my grocery store excel file and ended up spending three hours cleaning out my old computer files. And still no list! Someday when I find it I'll email to to you. My husband has rebuilt our computer about six times in the last 10 years and I guess this is what happens.

I liked Farmer Boy a lot, especially the scene where they have to get up in the middle of the night to save the crops from frost. And the descriptions of eating! Wow, what a lot of food Mrs. Wilder had to make everyday.

I add almost every link you recommend to my reader. FYI. Thank you.

I hate radishes, and I usually love everything. Or at the very least, don't feel strongly enough to even say "hate." But radishes. Bleck.
