My Awesome Amazing Very Important Incredible News

Our bank manager just called and I

won a 60-second shopping spree

at the local grocery store! I don't even enter contests, but we were automatically entered every time we used our debit card (um... cash budget? what cash budget?).

The idea of running around with a shopping cart with "the media" in attendance sounds... embarassing?

But, the thought of cleaning out their brand new gluten-free section? Hmmm....

Or maybe I'll just fill the cart up with diapers. Freeeee diapers....

So tell me, kind readers, what would YOU buy if you won a 60-second shopping spree? (Okay, I can hear you shouting MEAT from here!)

60 seconds isn't very long, and unfortunately, I'm not a fast runner. Or... a runner at all. I mostly walk, with children hanging off my ankles. And it takes me 60 seconds just to read one label to see if the thing is STILL gluten free. So, it's quite likely I'll end up with a whole cart full of canned corn.

Also, to the little voice telling me that I should fill up the cart and then give it all away to charity? Shut up. No one wants to listen to you right now. La la la la la....

That is exciting. I'd go the day before and scope out the gluten free section and figure out how to get the most bang for your buck..you could load up on all kinds of good Glutino stuff! I wouldn't do meat, because that does go on sale...gluten free stuff rarely does...

Wow! I recently watched a movie (can't remember the name) and the lady actually did timed practice runs ahead of time. Do you have to be at the front of the store at 60 seconds, or just quit?

If you checked everything ahead, I'd major on armfuls of seafood and steak, but you might be able to get there via the GF isle and come back by way of diapers.

Oh, how cool! Make sure you tell us what you end up with. :) And how much money you saved.

I'd go with the gluten free section first, then diapers. Maybe meat if there's time.

Oh!! I am so jealous!! I can not wait to hear all the details!!
I think I would go for all the meat I could get my hands on. I can see why you may choose diapers or the Gluten Free section though. I think all 3 are great choices. No matter what you grab... it will help your budget!
Get your running shoes ready!!

The Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio is the movie to which the previous commenter was referring. Julianne Moore's character did, in fact, do a lot of scoping and planning in advance. She had longer than 60 seconds. She got tall, skinny items to make the cart taller so as to fit more merchandise without it spilling over the sides.

Here's a picture of her at the start...just trying to get you in the right frame of mind...

Congratulations!

Too funny!

I scoped it out last night. I think I can fit the whole GF section into my cart, and if that's as far as I make it, I'm happy!

I vote for Crisco, tongue depressors and blank videotapes.

Seriously, though? That is SO cool. I'm glad to see something like this go to someone who can honestly use it.

LOL at your last sentence! ;) That's like buying a ticket for a charity raffle, then being "bullied" into giving your winnings back for the charity. Great gesture? YES! But, you shouldn't be harped on to do it, it's YOUR choice!

So.. I'd get diapers (if needed), coffee if you drink it, boboli crusts (because they are soooo expensive and NEVER on sale...but then again, you guys prolly can't use boboli's), good jam, meats of some sort and who knows what else. But, like you said, 60 seconds will go FAST! You need to know ahead of time right where to go and what you plan to get, and if you want jam from isle one and cheese from isle 10.. that's a hike, do you grab things in between?? Or just run for the GF area and clean them out? You'd get more if you choose cleaning out the GF shelves.

Sorry to ramble on. Congrats. That would be fun, well maybe..if media is there it could be weird. I hope you throw some good stuff into your cart! GOOD LUCK! :)

Per oz., most gluten-free stuff is probably more expensive than meat! Honestly, I'd hit the gf and the fancy chocolates. :D
