Why?

SuperDad was asked last week, "What would possess you to put your debt and everything out for the whole world to see?"

What indeed.

  • For one thing, we're not embarassed about our debt. Debt is pretty normal, from what I can tell. However, I don't want to be in debt just so that I can "own" things I can't afford. I want to be out of debt so that I can afford the things that I need.
  • We wanted some accountability for living within our means. Readers have been amazingly supportive of our journey out of debt and toward a more stable financial future. Plus, the reality check factor of knowing what is truly a "need" has been really motivating.
  • I just honestly couldn't find any information about living gluten free on a budget. It just wasn't really out there. Plus, most gluten free bloggers are a bit foodie, which doesn't really work for my kids. "Normal," cheap, healthy, AND gluten free is always my goal.
  • It's my blog, and it's my rules. So there. :)

You know, in a similar way, I was inspired to start my "foodie" blog because I found way too many cookbooks, websites and blogs with gluten-free recipes that -- for me -- were way too complex and involved buying foods that either didn't fit in our budget (yep, us too) or just were too specialized to justify buying. Or, my kids wouldn't eat it. They wanted chicken nuggets, hamburgers and potatoes. I really wanted someplace to offer simple recipes. I believe there's a great benefit from real families -- who are dealing with food issues, autism, ADD, etc. -- who share their real-life experiences, whether it's debt, recipes, etc. We all learn.

What a healthy attitude! Why is it our society would rather talk about sex than money? I think what you're doing is great. You definitely help me keep on track financially. And I agree with Jim, there's a benefit to sharing real-life experiences.

i'm another frugal gluten-free blogger! I don't focus on living frugally on my blog, as much as I focus on recipes, but I totally believe in frugality and paying off debt! I'm enjoying your site and adding you to my blogroll! Great post!!
