When it rains, it pours

Bread machine: Died an untimely, smoky death. Thankfully, we can buy bread.
Car: Brakes out. Thankfully, our neighbor is mechanic and is helping us out in exchange for photography services. And thankfully we have a small emergency fund to deal with this. And thankfully SuperDad has been working a second job over Christmas. And thankfully we actually saved up for Christmas this year, so his income isn't already spent.
Garage: Has no electricity anymore. Thankfully, SuperDad showed me that it's possible to open and close a garage door by hand. Who knew?
Roof: Leaking. Maybe. Thankfully, we have saved money to fix it. And by "saved" I mean "allocated the tax return."
Car seat: Almost not fitting carpooling preschooler anymore. Thankfully, it still fits right now. Maybe she'll stop growing?
Clothes: Not fitting. Thankfully it's because I've lost weight!
DVD Player: Broken. Thankfully we have a VCR. (Okay, that one's a stretch, I know!)

This morning, I changed my W-4 so that I'll soon be bringing home more of my paycheck. I'm hoping this is a change that will give our budget a little more breathing space while more quickly paying down our debt.

Man, what a rough bunch of events :( It seems you are pretty prepared for it though, which is more than most people would be in that situation.

Can I recommend a carseat? We got it for our "oversized" preschooler as it does harness up to 65 lbs--the Biltmore by Safety First (it's the same as the Apex 65). I bought it at albeebaby.com -- they are currently "only" $80 with $5 shipping. http://www.albeebaby.com/sa1stsibiboc.html

Thanks, Lindsey! This car seat is actually for a little girl we're driving home from preschool, and she's growing too tall for our up-to-80-lbs. booster! She's VERY tall! But if we get her a lap-style booster, then we're giving up space in our car for one of our own kids. Anyway, I'm thinking that if we're supposed to be driving her (her mom has MS and can't drive), then God will find a way for us.

I hate when that stuff happens. They come in waves when you're not looking. Hang in there.

I have a bread machine in the garage that I received as a wedding gift in 2000 and I think I have used in on the mix/knead setting maybe once. I will ship it to you if you are interested because I was just thinking of taking it to Salvation Army, but I'd rather send it to someone I "know." Email me.
