What a wonderful post on excessive holiday spending. About six years ago, I did the same thing with our entire family, our gift giving list had grown from about 8 people when we first got married to almost 23 11 years later. So I told my husband it had to stop, this was too much of everything (time shopping, money spent, the angst of trying to find something the other person would enjoy, other peoples desire for us to up the amount spent so they could get a decent gift, etc.). I hold to this every year...regardless of what some family members say/do.

Our decision to cut back was well received by some and not by others. It was interesting to see the ones who didn't take it well, versus the family members who were delighted to skip the commercialism. We have so much fun talking and sharing about other stuff or the foods we shared with each other rather than feeling good or bad about how much someone spent on us. I really wish the others would change...

Anyway, I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Hi sheltie girl! I'd be interested to know how you cut back - buying fewer gifts or smaller gifts or...? Just curious! Thanks for commenting! :)
