Sacrifice

I think this post is just great - http://www.bluntmoney.com/what-the-heck-i-deserve-it/.

I used to say that we made sacrifices so that SuperDad could stay home with the kids. But we didn't. We don't. The concept of "sacrifice" assumes that, on some level, you deserve things that you can't afford.

There are a lot of things I can't afford. But that's the choice that we're making. Could SuperDad go get a job? Could we put our kids in daycare? Could we move to a less expensive home in a worse neighborhood with a worse school district? Yes. But we've decided as a family, that what we value, what we "deserve" is time. Time together. And the opportunity to give our kids the best education that tax dollars can buy.

It's gets stickier as they get older. I would have liked for my daughter to start dance classes this fall. And, if she remains interested, we'll find a way later. After all, she's only three. I would have liked to take my son to baby swimming classes, like his sister did. But we just can't afford it. Not right now. And it's okay. It really, really is, because we're living according to our values and in line with our beliefs. And that? Is priceless.
